About Us

Our Story

Passing On began with a simple observation: when someone dies, the people they love are often left trying to piece together a life.

Not the memories - those remain.
But the practical things.

Accounts. Contacts. Passwords. Paperwork.
Important details that suddenly matter, but can be surprisingly hard to find.

For many families, these questions arrive at the very moment when they should be given the space to grieve.

The moment the idea began

The founder of Passing On, James, spent years working in life insurance. In that role, he regularly spoke with families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Again and again, he saw the same pattern.

People had often done the responsible thing - they had taken out life insurance to protect their family financially. But when it came to the practical details of their life, many had left little guidance behind.

Loved ones were left searching.

One person described spending days trying to locate her father’s National Insurance Number, which was needed to progress important paperwork. Another family struggled to identify which accounts and policies even existed. Two brothers argued about which song their mother had wanted played at her funeral. Others simply didn’t know who their loved one’s solicitor or financial adviser had been.

None of these problems were insurmountable.

But they made an already painful time far harder than it needed to be.

James realised that what many families needed wasn’t more paperwork or legal complexity - they needed clarity.

A simple, thoughtful way for someone to gather the details of their life, so the people they care about wouldn’t have to search for them later.

Planning isn’t pessimism. It’s generosity.

Some families speak openly about death and prepare together.
Others find the topic more difficult to approach.

Passing On was designed for both.

It doesn’t require difficult conversations or complicated legal knowledge. Instead, it gently guides you through the practical details of life - the information, contacts, instructions and wishes that your loved ones may one day need.

It replaces uncertainty with calm.

Not with urgency or fear, but with thoughtfulness.

Because planning ahead isn’t about expecting the worst. It’s about making things easier for the people you love.

Designed with care

From the beginning, Passing On was created to be something different from the generic planners already available.

Many existing products felt incomplete, disposable, or impersonal.

James wanted to create something that felt worthy of the responsibility it carried - something people would feel comfortable keeping for decades.

So every detail was considered.

• A durable hardback cover.
• Premium 120gsm ivory writing paper.
• A double metal coil binding that lies flat for easy writing.
• An inside-cover pocket, for leaving envelopes of final words.
• Metal corner protectors and waterproof vegan leather.
• A protective storage box designed to preserve the planner for years to come.

Inside, the system was carefully structured to guide people through the information their loved ones might one day need - from personal details and finances to digital accounts, important contacts, and final wishes.

Alongside the planner itself, Passing On also includes compassionate guides designed to support the people left behind, including The First 30 Days Without Me, a gentle guide to help families navigate the early practical steps after a loss.

Everything was designed with one purpose: to replace confusion with clarity when it matters most.

A quiet act of care

Passing On isn’t about preparing for the end.

It’s about caring for the people who will live on.

Whether you are someone who plans openly with your family, or someone who simply wants the reassurance that everything has been thoughtfully organised, this system exists to make that process easier.

It’s a small act of responsibility that can have an enormous impact.

A way of saying, long before it’s ever needed:

“I’ve got you.”
